Chalk Paste & Paint

Chalk paint has a similar consistency to regular house paint, and does not work well with stencils because it is thin and watery, and can bleed under the edges of the stencil. Chalk paste is thicker than chalk paint which makes it great for stenciling.

  • Chalk Paste is normally thick, and may have some lumps in it. More importantly, it should not run out of the container. Chalk paste is too thick to smooth over a large surface with a paint brush. In fact, you want it to be thick and should expect it to dry quickly. Chalk Paste is normally put on with a squeegee and a small amount of pressure. It great for stenciling.
  • Pelletier Craft Studio chalk paste is non toxic, washable, and dries quickly when used with a stencil. You are going to love the easy smooth consistency.
  • Chalk Paint has a similar consistency to regular house paint, and does not work well with stencils because it is thin and watery, and can bleed under the edges of the stencil.  It can be toxic, and is seldom washable. Chalk Paint can make wood into a usable surface for Chalk Paste.
